PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT FIVE WAYS

Creating long life engagement in Physical activity by delivering our 3 P’s philosophy of -

Confident to participate

Commitment to progress

Opportunities to perform

At Five Ways our philosophy is participation - progression - performance.  We aim to offer a broad range of sporting disciplines, designed to support those who wish to engage with the highest level of competitive team sports and for those whose interest is more recreational.  Most importantly, sport is for all.

Our teaching and coaching team believes that physical education is about inspiring students and providing them with the tools to allow them to participate in physical activity when they leave Five Ways and for the rest of their lives.  We offer students the opportunity to be both physically active, and also to stimulate their mind and core values in sport.   At Five Ways, we believe that an engaging and enjoyable sports program promotes and maintains good mental health and wellbeing, but also as a key part of their school experience by creating memories that will be talked about beyond their life at Five Ways.

We strive to engage young sports women and men into a range of school virtues taught in our PE/Games curriculum and extracurricular activities.  Our whole school ‘graduate virtues’ underpin our teaching and coaching; virtues such as courage, endeavour, effort, belief, focus, determination, resilience and risk taking are all qualities to which we firmly believe that better people create better sports performances and long life participation levels.

House Sport

The inter-house sports competition has a central role within the school. It incorporates Netball, Rugby, Hockey, Cricket, Rounders, Tennis and Athletics which are fully-inclusive across all students in all age groups and provides a very important level of competitive and representative experience.

All competitions take place in curriculum time. The structure applies across all age groups and pupils are split into four houses: Roach, MCarthy, Dobinson and Barker.

We conclude a house sporting day in the summer term with a traditional sports day involving a number of athletics events to a range of sports not participated in before.
