Art

Staff

Mr R Everson . Subject leader of Art
Miss H Fountain . Teacher of Art

The Art Department is located in the McCarthy block and consists of three teaching rooms, one of which is a dedicated sixth form space. Each classroom has a range of facilities for teaching drawing, painting, printmaking and ceramic Art forms. Additional access to computer suites, Kiln room, storage facilities, and a central administration office compliment the space.

Art is compulsory for all pupils in years 7 to 9. We teach Fine Art AQA for both GCSE and A-level, 8201 and 7201 specifications respectively. We do our very best to stretch and challenge individuals in lessons and have high expectations for examination achievement. Results have been excellent in recent years:

Beyond the Curriculum

The Art department hosts regular Art club sessions at lunch time where pupils can investigate and develop ideas further or experiment in new materials.  Structured printmaking and ceramics club enable specialist techniques to be taught in greater depth.  We actively encourage pupils to take part in numerous Art competitions both nationally and across the five ways foundation.  Trips to Internationally recognised Art galleries such as the Tate Modern, National Gallery and British Museum feature as part of our support to widen pupil’s engagement with Art.

Each year, we are proud to see a large number of our pupils successfully apply for undergraduate degrees in areas such as;

Cambridge: BA (hons) Architecture

Chelsea: BA (hons) Fine Art

Loughborough: BA (hons) Illustration

Leeds: BA (hons) Architecture

Bristol: BA (hons) Film Studies
